“The most dangerous risk of all – the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.” – Randy Komisar

My name is Alyssa. I am a 28 year old hospice nurse, born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. When I am not working you can more than likely find me whipping up all natural body care products for my business Free Spirit Body Care, doing yoga, being crafty, listening to my favorite records on vinyl, or eating at the best Thai place I can find.

Mostly though, I am fighting a constant battle between my severe case of wanderlust and the ‘real world.’ It’s about time wanderlust has won the battle!

I took my first ‘solo’ trip in 2011 to Europe through an organized travel company with a group of 45 other college students from all over the United States looking to spend New Years Eve in another country. At the time, I was eight months from graduating and I thought this would be my only chance to run away since I was about to enter the ‘real world’ and vacations over two weeks aren’t exactly welcomed. This was the trip that gave me a case of wonderlust that refuses to leave, and I hope it never does.

Since graduating from college and passing my RN boards in 2012, I have spent two and a half years working as a hospice nurse. I love my job, the people I have met along the way and I am grateful for all that I have learned. But, I have never felt satisfied staying in the same place day after day. I knew that I had to get back on a plane and see the world.

In 2015 the wanderlust struggle is real ladies and gentleman. Real enough that I  saved up enough money to leave my job and I purchased a one way ticket to Thailand to backpack my way through Asia on my first true solo trip. Two years later and I am loving life living in Northern India! I have no idea what the future holds, but I am enjoying every moment of this journey!

Much love <3 <3
